History of Yachats
The history of Yachats can be dated back to 570 AD through radiocarbon testing. In the 1800s, Native American’s used this land for hunting and gathering and they even made trails and camps which the settlers eventually used to help get roads and residences built. By the late 1800s, the settlers realized that the main industry would be agriculture since the soil and the area was rich in nutrients. Logging soon came into play with the nearby mountains and the town became a booming location for agriculture. 1905 was the year that tourists started to enjoy all that Yachats has to offer but it was difficult to get to. In 1931 scenic route 101 was created making the village a prime hub for commerce as well as an ideal tourist destination.
